Lietuvos rytas also played its first friendly game yesterday, just like Žalgiris did a couple of days ago. And the start of the season long journey was a perfect one – a 97:72 (28:17, 22:18, 29:21, 18:16) victory against Triumph Lyubertsy in Vilnius.
Rytas started their game with Martynas Gecevičius, Evaldas Dainys, Donatas Zavackas, Dejan Borovnjak and Justas Sinica on the court. The start for the Lithuanian wasn‘t the best one with a 5:0 run at the start for the opponents, but Lietuvos rytas were straight back in the game in no time and the cruised to an early lead in the first quarter – 28:17.
The second period was started by Steponas Babrauskas’ three pointer and Lietuvos rytas kept on increasing their lead against the Russians, who didn‘t bring their strongest roster. Coming into the half-time Rytas had a convincible advantage of 50:35.
At the beginning of the second half of the game Triumph started to cut the lead, but Zavackas‘ and Anisimovas‘ was enough to hold the guests far from introducing some color to the game. After three fourths of the match the result was 79:56.
Lietuvos rytas dominated the last quarter as well and Aron Baynes had a chance to enter the court in the middle of the period to make a debut in the clubs jersey.
Martynas Gecevičius scored 19 points for the winners, Justas Sinica added 14, Steponas Babrauskas – 10, Donatas Zavackas and Dejan Borovnjak had 9 each. You can find the video footage here.
Rytas is still missing Artūras Jomantas, Bojan Popovic and coach Rimas Kurtinaitis, who are all preparing for Eurobasket with the Lithuanian and Serbian National Teams.
